Since 1999 Frankfurt (Oder) has been called the “Kleist-City”. It is the home town of Heinrich von Kleist a well known German poet, born in 1777. The Kleist-museum is according to the German magazine “DIE ZEIT” (2000) one of the most beautiful museums of literature in Europe. It shows 34,000 works about the extensive documentation of Heinrich von Kleist and his literary-historical environment.
Another important aspect of the cultural life in Frankfurt is the Brandenburg State Orchestra. It is located in the concert hall “Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach“ close to the river Oder.
