Having being elected the "Entrepreneurial Region 2011" by the EU in 2010, Brandenburg's Minister for Commerce and European Affairs, Ralf Christoffers received the region's second award in brief succession in January of this year. For the first time, President of the EU Commission Mr. Baroso has selected three European regions - Brandenburg, Wales and Lithuania - as “Regions of Excellence”.

Along being awarded the second time as "Best State for Renewable Energies", this honouring enhances nationally and internationally the pioneering image of Germany 's solar capital Frankfurt (Oder) as innovative and leading solar location.

The growth region of Frankfurt (Oder) / Eisenhüttenstadt gives already home to a multitude of national and international solar modules producers and their partners from many sectors of the solar value chain. First Solar, Conergy and Odersun are using the optimal conditions on site as well as Yamaichi Electronics (Japan) or 5N PV (Canada). In 2010 the most German solar modules were produced in the Solarcity Frankfurt (Oder).
